At present, society seems still to be obsessed with the idea that tanned skin is beautiful skin. In the pursuit of beauty, many people put their health at risk by using sunbeds and over-exposing themselves to the sun’s UV rays without the proper protection.
If you are a sun worshipper, there are a few things you need to know about the damage the sun could be doing to your skin:
• Sun spots can form. These are signs of skin damage which can develop after exposure to the sun’s UV rays. This particular pigmentation problem can be treated with laser treatment, but it is best to avoid it in the first place.
• Wrinkles and fine lines are formed by sun damage. UVA rays can start to damage the collagen in your skin, which keeps your skin firm and flexible. As your collagen levels drop, lines and wrinkles start to form.
• Tanning is not good for you. Contrary to popular belief, a tan is not a sign of health but a sign that your skin has been damaged.
• Sunburn -this can kill living skin cells and possibly lead to skin cancer
Minor problems relating to sun damage can be corrected with laser treatment, but it is far better to avoid them in the first place by protecting your skin from the sun.
