If you’ve suffered from burns in the past, you’ll be well aware of the scars that they leave behind. These scars often make people feel self conscious and sometimes embarrassed. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we specialise in burn scar removal treatments, to help you feel confident within your skin.
In this blog, we will be discussing everything you need to know about burn scars. This includes what they are, the different types, and how we treat them here at our clinic.
The differences between atrophic and hypertrophic scars
There are a few different kinds of scars that can form after a burn. The main types are atrophic, hypertrophic, and keloid scars. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we can treat each type of scar effectively.
Atrophic scars are scars that are sunken and indented. They heal below the usual layer of skin tissue which is what gives them this appearance. These scars are most commonly caused by acne but there is a minority of burn scars that are atrophic too.
Hypertrophic scars on the other hand, are raised scars that are the product of too much collagen being produced. They are an abnormal response to wound healing but they can sometimes improve naturally after a few years.
Like hypertrophic scars, keloid scars are raised scars. Keloid scars differ from the other kinds of scars as they can be red in colour and extend beyond the original injury area. These kinds of scars are more commonly found on darker complexions.
Types of burn scar removal treatment
We offer a variety of burn scar removal treatments here in our Harley Street clinic. Take a look at some of our treatment options below.
Advanced microneedling with radio frequency (RF)
This treatment is a very effective way to treat burn scarring. Microneedling with Radio Frequency (RF) successfully stimulates collagen and elastin production, which revitalises the skin and makes it look youthful and radiant. This treatment targets deeper in the skin, allowing for a healthier and smooth appearance after.
Microneedling with Radio Frequency (RF) can treat many areas of your body including your face, shoulders, back, and thighs. This method is also non-surgical, a big advantage for many.
We offer this advanced treatment here at The Laser Treatment Clinic. Our skincare experts can assess your skin and decide which burn scar removal treatment is best suited for you.
Laser treatment
Laser resurfacing treatments are another effective way to successfully reduce the appearance of burn scars. Stimulating collagen through the heat from the lasers allows the skin to appear healthier and smoother.
