The differences between atrophic and hypertrophic scars
There are a few different kinds of scars that can form after a burn. The main types are atrophic, hypertrophic, and keloid scars. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we can treat each type of scar effectively.
Atrophic scars are scars that are sunken and indented. They heal below the usual layer of skin tissue which is what gives them this appearance. These scars are most commonly caused by acne but there is a minority of burn scars that are atrophic too.
