Acne across areas of the body is known as body acne. There are several places body acne can occur, from the back to the chest, the upper arms and even buttocks. Body acne, just like facial acne is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, although you would not notice, many people experience body acne. It’s a lot easier to hide, so body acne is not spoken about as much as facial acne. This is leaving many feeling lost and alone in their journey to treating body acne. At the Laser Treatment Clinic, we seek a solution for all our clients, like Derma White Treatment. We aim for happy and positive results for each person who comes through our clinic. Here we wanted to address the causes of body acne and ways you can treat this for clearer, smoother skin.
Causes of Body Acne
Caused in the same way as facial acne. Body acne is caused when oil and dead skin cells become trapped within the hair follicle (also known as a pore), a blockage is created. This will then cause the appearance of a blackhead or whitehead. You will typically find body acne on the upper half of the body and not usually in places like the legs. This is because the upper half of the body has many sebaceous glands. Therefore your pores are much more likely to become blocked as you experience an excess in sebum and dead skin cells.
Ways to Treat or Reduce your Body Acne
At the Laser Treatment Clinic, we understand how the appearance of acne, whether this is on the body or the face, can affect your self-esteem. Here are a few ways you can reduce and treat your body acne:
As sweat and sebum can lead to blocked pores always wash your body after a long workout or busy day and clean your workout clothes. To prevent the reoccurrence of your body acne ensure you are wearing loose-fitting workout clothes, as this can reduce the amount of sweat which becomes trapped when working out in the gym or outside.
Gently cleanse your skin in the shower and apply a topical acne treatment, which can be sourced by your GP or pharmacist.
Use gentle skin products that will not irritate your skin.
Always avoid picking or squeezing acne, no matter where it is on your body!
Speak with your doctor and book an appointment with a dermatologist if you are not seeing results from a gentle skin care routine and following the steps mentioned above.
