A surprising number of people have a fear of needles, and this often stems from a bad childhood experience. This fear can make it difficult to give blood and get necessary immunisations. It can also make certain procedures difficult to carry out, such as thread vein removal, for example.

Microsclerotherapy

Thread veins can be removed through a procedure known as microsclerotherapy. This involves injecting a very fine needle into the thread veins, causing the lining of the veins to swell. This prevents the blood from flowing through the thread veins, causing them to disappear.

If you have a fear of needles and injections, microsclerotherapy is definitely not the treatment for you. This doesn’t mean that you can’t still treat your thread veins, as there is another, more effective treatment available.

Laser thread vein removal

This treatment works on the surface of the skin, involving no needles or injections. A light from a laser is passed through the skin, and this light is converted into heat. The blood in the thread veins is targeted and heated by the laser, causing the blood to coagulate and the inner cells of the blood vessels to denature. The end result is that the thread veins collapse and disappear.
