There are many causes of thread veins:
• Genetics – if your parents suffered from them, then you are more likely to develop them too,
• Lifestyle – if you sit or stand for long periods of time, you may find thread veins appearing on your legs,
• Hormone changes – can cause blood vessels to remain dilated, resulting in noticeable thread veins.
Thread veins do not tend to be dangerous or uncomfortable, unlike varicose veins, but they can cause cosmetic problems. The red, blue or purple lines can spread across the skin and would require specialist make up and a lot of time and effort to conceal them.
Fortunately, thread vein removal offers a quick and easy way to get rid of them permanently. The technique involves using intense pulses of light which are applied to the areas of affected skin. The intensely-coloured haemoglobin contained in the blood in the vessels absorbs this energy and begins to heat up.
The temperature continues to rise until it reaches 60°C. At these temperatures, the cells lining the walls of the blood vessels start to denature and the veins eventually collapse and disintegrate, causing the lines to fade from the surface of the skin.
